f you play the Call of Duty series, you’re more than likely aware of the name Valeria Garza, a character who has already gone viral for her role in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II .
Valeria, also known as El Sin Nombre (The Nameless One), is the leader of the Las Almas Cartel. She is no-nonsense, speaks her mind no matter who she faces, and isn’t afraid to literally bring someone to their knees. And despite her being a baddie, those who’ve started playing through pre-order access are here for her and interested in who plays this character.
That’s where Ecuadorian actress Maria Elisa Camargo comes in.
Camargo lends her voice to Valeria and also modeled the design of the character with the use of performance capture technology. Last week, Camargo posted a photo of herself on set wearing a high-tech suit to record her movements.
“Getting so much love for Valeria already!!” Camargo wrote. “GRACIAS CABRONES.”
If you recognize Camargo, the 36-year-old actress got her start in Latin American telenovelas in the mid-2000s. Her first major role was in the Colombian series La Marca del Deseo, which ran for 120 episodes in 2007 and 2008, followed by a main role in the Mexican telenovela Verano de Amor the next year.
Camargo also had lead roles in several other series including Porque el Amor Manda, En Otra Piel, Bajo el Mismo Cielo, Tarde lo Conocí, and MalaYerba. In 2020, she was seen in her first guest appearance on an American TV series, Cinemax’s Warrior.
As for playing Valeria, Camargo described the experience on her Instagram account as a “joy” and credited the role for her rise in followers on IG to a massive one million.
“Buzzing!” she wrote. “Such an honor to feel accepted by the Call of Duty community. Amazed and overwhelmed with all the comments in my social media (I read them ALL)…And the game isn’t even out yet! WOW. GRACIAS de Corazón. And for those who are waiting for the official release…. ARE YOU READY?!?!”
Hopefully, the love for Maria Elisa Camargo and her work will continue when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II debuts on October 28, 2022.
